Scientists Predict Lack of Honey Bees Will Lead to a Food Crisis

JaLack of Honey Bees food crisisnuary 9, 2014

By Chris Carrington for Activist Post

A lack of honey bees is causing a crisis in agriculture with scientists confirming that there are not enough bees to pollinate crops.

The Department of Agriculture is worried about the honey bees in the United States. Colony Collapse Disorder has resulted in the loss of tens of millions of bees country wide and has left scientists worrying about food security.

Pesticides are causing huge concerns and scientists have said they are contributing to the die offs with some predicting that if it continues there will be a threat to the US food supply.

Mainstream Media Blackout: Maine Second State to Pass GMO Labeling Law

gm corn1January 11, 2014

By Melissa Melton for Activist Post

Maine joined Connecticut this week as the second state in the nation to sign a genetically modified food labeling law, but you may not have heard much about it because the mainstream media hasn’t really said anything about it.

No MSNBC. No CNN. No ABC. No other major news outlets are touching this story. Why?

Well, I guess that speaks volumes about who owns the mainstream news and what their agenda really is, doesn’t it?

Connecticut became the first state to sign a law requiring that foods be labeled if they contain genetically modified ingredients back in December.

Proponents of the bill said the provision would quell concerns about an almost-certain lawsuit by industry groups and Monsanto, which vowed to challenge the laws in Maine and Connecticut on the basis that they violate the free speech and interstate commerce provisions of the U.S. Constitution.

Yep. That’s right. States aren’t going at it alone because apparently they are scared of being sued by Monsanto.

Also, knowing what is in your food is apparently somehow unconstitutional.
Monsanto threatened to sue the state of Vermont back in spring 2012 over even thinking about passing a GMO labeling bill.

So, I guess that means Monsanto and mega food companies are now running the show and making all the rules, I’m sorry, laws, and those laws (or lack thereof) say you don’t get to know what’s in your food.

No-Brainer Course In Derailing The Trans-Pacific Partnership

TPPAJanuary 9, 2014

By Heather Callaghan for Activist Post

If you don’t know what it is yet – that means it’s working. The secrecy, that is. But once Pandora’s Box is opened, there’s no putting anything back. It will go down in history as one of the worst, oppressive plagues to saturate the planet.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership 1. A “free trade” agreement that would set rules on non-trade matters such as food safety, internet freedom, medicine costs, financial regulation, and the environment. 2. A binding international governance system that would require the United States, Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, and any other country that signs on to conform their domestic policies to its rules. 3. A secret trade negotiation that has included over 600 official corporate “trade advisors” while hiding the text from Members of Congress, governors, state legislators, the press, civil society, and the public.

Like Spider Man trying to stop a train from going over with nothing but his strength and shooting threads; we are going to need all the Web we can get to stop the fast-tracking Trans-Pacific Partnership from running over us. Perhaps more aptly, it is a tangled web we’ll be left trapped in as prey if we do nothing.

Here’s a sampling of what you can kiss goodbye if this mammoth piece of legislation goes through…What’s left of our jobs, food safety, Internet freedom, natural medicine, small farming, choice in medicine, financial regulation, privacy and more. Basically, all your rights. It permeates every area of your life, it’s been ramrodded through the Senate, and the media is not saying anything. It grants the likes of Monsanto, Wall Street and other huge entities full reign with immunity.

Kiss any last sovereignty goodbye and say hello to your new global crypto-corpocracy complete with international tribunals and the end of domestic law – from your newly refurbished prison cell, of course. After all, you clicked on the wrong Internet link! And your ISP was watching and reported you. In the near future, this article could be enough to jail me, ban my whole family from the Internet, have computers seized and delete the website. No more videos that piece other clips together, or anything that hints at “infringement,” no more fair use, so no more non-corporate news.

It’s been shrouded in secrecy, especially from the People and Congress, planned behind closed doors for years, and proponents are searching for sponsors to have the President push it through now that Congress is back from recess.

Here’s your crash course link on the TPP – all guesswork removed.

EU To Ban Heirloom Seeds and Criminalize Unregistered Gardens

Heirloom SeedsIf the global domination is allowed to take root, biotech and Big Agra will control the world food supply, at the expense of personal liberty.

By Aaron Dykes forActivist Post

Because independence is the greatest of all crimes under the emerging global government, which essentially works to protect the dominance established by the biggest of corporations, who participate, in turn, as de facto members of the ruling oligarchy – and in baby steps through the EU, and emerging North American Union, the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The U.S. has already seen its fair share of cases where backyard gardens and rain collectors are raided by SWAT teams, shut down through regulations and otherwise intimidated out of proliferation.

Now, official policies to support this kind of dominance by biotech, pesticide companies and other plays in big agribusiness are being pushed through in Europe, in this case by the European Commission through a truly bunk proposed law.

Sewage Sludge: Whole Foods Quietly Agrees To Drop Waste Grown Produce

gevirusJanuary 15, 2014

By Heather Callaghan for Activist Post

RUSH Editor’s note: In New Zealand packaged organic compost contains ‘night soil’ which is recycled human waste etc. as referred to in the following article.

In December 2012, whistleblower Mario Ciasulli, a semi-retired electrical engineer in North Carolina, put pressure on Whole Foods to come clean about a fertilizer method among their conventional produce suppliers.

That is, using sewage sludge, the “pink slime” of large produce farming. No joke – actual sewage. Whole Foods’ conventional produce is grown on soil layered with human waste as a fertilizer.
The stuff that’s flushed down sinks, drains and toilets? The water is removed from the resulting sludge, heated and sprayed. Yes, this includes pharmaceutical residues, chemicals, heavy metals, BPA, phthalates, resistant pathogens, PFCs, industrial solvents, flame retardants and other things that heat is insufficient to treat. Guess what else? There is a ton of evidence that these things “bioaccumulate” in the plants and organisms that eat them. It is doubtful that this practice is good for pollinators.

The company escaped scrutiny for a long time by referring to the waste as “bio-solids.” Here is the origin of that little PR spin

NSA Able to Target Off-Line Computers Using Radio Waves

January 15, 2014
By Chris Carrington for Activist PostNSA target offline computers

A report by RT states that the NSA has implanted software in computers around the world that enables them to use surveillance of those machines even when they are off-line.

According to the report:

The secret technology uses covert radio waves transmitted from small circuit boards and USB cards clandestinely inserted into targeted computers, The New York Times reported. The waves can then be sent to a briefcase-sized relay station intelligence agencies can set up just miles away, according to NSA documents, computer experts and US officials.

The radio frequency technology – which often needs to be physically inserted by a spy, manufacturer or unwitting user – has helped US spies access computers that global adversaries have gone to great lengths to protect from surveillance or cyber-attack.

The NSA calls use of the infiltration software and radio technology – all part of a program known as Quantum -“active defense”against cyber-attacks, though it has condemned use of similar software by Chinese attackers against American companies or government agencies.

“What’s new here is the scale and the sophistication of the intelligence agency’s ability to get into computers and networks to which no one has ever had access before,”James Andrew Lewis, cyber security expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, told The Times.“Some of these capabilities have been around for a while, but the combination of learning how to penetrate systems to insert software and learning how to do that using radio frequencies has given the U.S. a window it’s never had before.”

Are Climate Changers Pulling an Orwell? It’s “Polar Vortex”, Not Global Cooling

The most desperate movement on the planet is exploring new levels of reason, meanings and translations lately. They are desperate to stay alive in an avalanche (no pun intended) of evidence coming at them that disproves their very existence. Since their existence was based on the lie that we were in catastrophic global warming which never happened, they are no longer needed anymore. They know they need to keep the flock from fleeing the movement. They need to keep their environmental movement baseline strong. They couldn’t afford to let the core of the movement lose faith so they needed to act fast and at the end of September the movement went to work. It was then when word got out that IPCC was looking to have a meeting about the global temperature data and how to interpret the data. It was then that word got out about this raw data which confirmed that global temperatures did not rise since 1998 as it had been predicted. Global warming was officially not real, but they had to spin a new reality. There was no time to lose.

US ‘superweeds’ epidemic shines spotlight on GMOs

no gmoJanuary 12, 20
By Veronique Dupont

The United States is facing an epidemic of herbicide-resistant “superweeds” that some activists and researchers are blaming on GMOs, an accusation rejected by industry giants.
According to a recent study, the situation is such that American farmers are “heading for a crisis.”
Many scientists blame overuse of herbicides, prompted by seeds genetically modified to resist them.
“In parts of the country, weeds resistant to the world’s most popular herbicide, glyphosate, now grow in the vast majority of soybean, cotton, and corn fields,” many of which were planted with seeds resistant to the weedkiller, said the study published in the journal Science in September.
Earlier this month, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it was considering the release of new genetically-engineered seeds that are resistant to multiple herbicides.
But “weeds that can shrug off multiple other herbicides are also on the rise,” the study said.
Nearly half (49 percent) of all US farmers said they had “glyphosate resistant weeds” on their farms in 2012, according to the most recent review from agri-business market research firm Stratus. That’s up from 34 percent of farmers in 2011.
Glyphosate is the name of the most frequently used herbicide in the United States and was created by agricultural biotechnology giant Monsanto in the 1970s. Today, the US company markets it as Roundup while, among other versions, competitor Dow Chemical sells a similar product under the name Durango.

Study Suggests That Spirituality Is Key To Kids’ Happiness

Spirituality key to kids happinessJanuary 13, 2014
by Arjun Walia

A professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan, and his colleagues Ben Coleman and Judi Wallace have conducted a study which suggests that spirituality is key to children’s happiness.(1) Over the past few years, scientists have been able to measure the effect of positive emotions and feelings of joy within our biology, so it is key to find out what best produces these feelings within us.

Just to be clear, they define spirituality as internal characteristics; an inner belief system that a person relies on for strength and comfort. Understanding happiness has been subjected to large amounts of research for a number of years. This particular one suggests that the processes that influence happiness are not guided by external factors, but by internal characteristics and qualities.

Agrochemical companies sue to block anti-GMO law in Hawaii

Hawaii gmo ban officialJanuary 11, 2014
By Christopher D’Angelo

Three of the world’s largest agrochemical companies have filed a lawsuit in Hawaii to block a law enacted on the island of Kauai in November to limit the planting of biotech crops and the use of pesticides. DuPont, Syngenta and Agrigenetics Inc, a company affiliated with the Dow AgroSciences unit of Dow Chemical Co, filed suit Friday in U.S. district court in Honolulu. The suit claims the action in Kauai is unconstitutional and seeks an injunction permanently barring enforcement of provisions of the law.

The Kauai law requires large agricultural companies to disclose pesticide use and GMO crop plantings while establishing buffer zones around schools, homes and hospitals.

The Hawaiian islands are a popular testing ground for biotech crops for many companies due to a favorable year-round climate.

The battle in the Hawaiian islands over biotech crop development and related pesticide use is part of a larger battle brewing in the United States and several other countries. Biotech crop critics argue that genetically modified crops, first introduced in 1996, lead to increased pesticide use, environmental damage and health problems for people and animals.

The most popular biotech crops are corn and soybeans that have been genetically altered to make the plants tolerant of chemical herbicides and resist pest damage.

Dow and rival biotech crop developer Monsanto Co. are seeking regulatory approval for new pesticides and biotech crops because there is widespread weed resistance to current popular pesticides.

Supreme Court Gives Monsanto Full Ability to Sue Farmers

Do you remember the 2011 lawsuit from the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association 80+ plaintiffs (farmers and small businesses) against Monsanto? They were fighting biotech giant Monsanto’s ability to sue them for patent infringement when genetically modified seeds inadvertently appear in organic/conventional fields.

Yes, were talking about the windor insects carrying GM seeds onto another farm, which to them is considered contamination. But instead of the ability for the farmers to sue for a ruined field, they can be cleaned out in court for not having permission to plant patented seeds. Monsanto workers have been found trespassing and gathering evidence on farmers’ properties. The lawsuit had sought protection from this overreach, as Monsanto has filed 140 of these suits and settled 700 without suing.

Monsanto Protection Act Signed Into Law

monsanto protection actMarch 27, 2013
Heather Callaghan
Activist Post

President Obama signed HR 933 into law with biotech rider Sec. 735 – dubbed the Monsanto Protection Act – still contained. Simply put, the rider hidden in the text of the Farmer Assurance Provision – and has nothing to do with Continuing Resolution spending (HR 933) – protects Monsanto from the court system should they want to halt illegally planted or hazardous genetically modified crops. The USDA already gives biotech companies like Monsanto the thumbs up, trusting Monsanto’s own safety evaluations. Now the court system cannot intervene, which could prove detrimental to farmers who are sued by Monsanto for patent infringement when theirGM seeds contaminate those farmers’ fields.

The rider was passed despite efforts of phone calls, emails, and forms asking for veto made by over a quarter-million concerned Americans given very little time to do so before the “must-pass” spending bill slipped through the House and Senate. That number comes just from Food Democracy Now!’s alert alone. That does not include the many contacts made by people who read alerts from many other websites and organizations.

This left many shocked and outraged, but many others were not surprised. Even though the Obama family enjoys non-GMO organic fare, at least from the White House garden, the Administration is known for hiring former Monsanto employees like Michael Taylor to high-up food safety positions – a blatant conflict of interest. Almost half a million people asked Obama to cut FDA ties with Monsanto. Remember this clip (below) from 2007 of Obama promising to label GMOs?

Where do we go from here?

Coming Soon: “On-Demand” Nano-Vaccines Funded by Bill Gates

Activist Post

According to a press release recently posted by the University of Washington, a new type of vaccine may soon be created that will allow for its immediate creation and application. This new vaccine, however, will be formed by using nanoparticles created from genetically engineered proteins.

The researchers, who have already tested the vaccine in mice, are hopeful that the vaccines will soon make “on-demand” vaccines that can be administered within minutes for a low price a common reality in the medical community.

The vaccine would mostly be aimed at “developing countries” and would cut the costs of vaccination programs “by not having to rely on refrigeration, and vaccines could be produced with rudimentary equipment in more precise, targeted numbers. The vaccines could be manufactured and delivered using a disposable patch, like a bandage, which could one day lessen the use of trained personnel and hypodermic needles.”

What’s the Scoop on Genetically-engineered and Pandemic Viruses?

Genetically engineered virusesJanuary 3, 2014

Activist Post

Something vaccine safety advocates have wondered about, and even questioned if it were possible, has been confirmed! It is the scientific engineering or genetic modification of viruses, especially influenza-like viruses, to make them lethal, more lethal, or transferrable between species. That Frankenstein-like quest has become public knowledge, and is being confronted by those who rightfully fear the consequences. One has to wonder if the so-called pandemic H1N1 Swine flu virus was a product of genetic engineering.

Back in October of 2013, the European Society for Virology [ESV] sent a 5-page letter [1] to the President of the European Commission with four cc’d copies to various EU Commission officials regarding the work of one particular research scientist, Ron Fouchier, about the H5N1 influenza virus and how the Fouchier group’s research “shows that a few mutations can render H5N1, an avian virus, transmissible by aerosol between ferrets, which are used as the mammalian model to study the potential of pandemic spread of strains of influenza.” Also, the work of Yoshihiro Kawaoka, of the University of Wisconsin regarding similar studies, was mentioned.

Enjoy The Radioactive Fish: Tests Show Fukushima Fish Are Up To 124X Above Safe Level

Are you purchasing radioactive fish at the grocery store? Are you absolutely certain that you know the answer to that question? You are about to read about a test that discovered that a fish recently caught off the coast of the Fukushima prefecture was found to have 12,400 becquerels per kilogram of radioactive cesium. That is 124 times above the level that is considered to be safe.

But it is not just fish caught off the coast of Japan that you need to be concerned about. In this article I will also discuss a report by the National Academy of Sciences which states unequivocally that Pacific Bluefin tuna have “transported Fukushima-derived radionuclides across the entire North Pacific Ocean”. In fact, if you just had a tuna sandwich for lunch you may have ingested radioactive material without even knowing it.

3 eyed fish 2Each day, another 300 tons of highly radioactive water is released into the Pacific Ocean at Fukushima, and that means that the total amount of radioactive material that is getting into our food chain is constantly increasing. And since some of these radioactive elements have a half-life of about 30 years, that means that our food chain is going to be contaminated for a very, very long time.

Activists Make a Last Ditch Effort to Block Bloomberg’s Forced Flu Shots For Kids

Baby-VaccineDec.10, 2013

By Daisy Luther for Activist Post

Michael Bloomberg may be nearly finished with his term as the mayor of New York City, but he is pushing his “health” mandates until the very last minute. When he isn’t busy peddling gun control, he’s threatening parents with the choice of injecting their kids with poison or the loss of childcare options.

Bloomberg’s dystopic Board of Health is voting on Wednesday to establish new laws that force parents of children as young as 6 months of age to have the flu vaccine. If children are not vaccinated against the flu by December 31 of each year, they won’t be allowed to attend schools or licensed daycare facilities.

Young children have a high risk of developing severe complications from influenza. One-third of children under five in New York City do not receive an annual influenza vaccination, even though the vaccine safely and effectively protects them against influenza illness,” the Health Department said in a statement. “This mandate will help protect the health of young children, while reducing the spread of influenza in New York City.”

The Board is stocked with mayoral appointees and controversial initiatives–from smoking bans to regulations on soda cup sizes–have sailed through with little opposition.

Although the mandate is expected to pass, a small but vocal group of activists intend to protest until the very last second. John Gilmore, the executive director of the Autism Action Network, is helping to organize tomorrow’s protest.

The Bloomberg administration is wildly exaggerating the benefit of the flu shot and we think they are wildly underestimating the risks involved with it.

“There are risks associated with every medical procedure,” he said, citing allergic reactions, toxic mercury used as a preservative and questions as to whether the Board’s move is legal given state government jurisdictions.

And though he doesn’t expect the Board’s vote to go his way, he hopes the rally will get Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio’s attention, potentially opening the door for a reversal once he takes office in January.“This is basically to put the mayor-elect [on alert], make him aware that this is an issue that he’s going to have to deal with it. It’s not going to go away,” said Mr. Gilmore said, criticizing the way the Bloomberg administration has pushed the rules through. “He is kind of doing this in a stealth fashion. He just proposed this about 6 weeks ago. I don’t think there was any announcement.”
